A Regina man convicted of breaking into a home and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment.

The assessment of Donald Wilton will determine if the Crown can seek to have him declared either a dangerous or long-term offender.

Court heard Wilton has lengthy criminal history that includes 24 convictions for violent offences.

If Wilton is declared a dangerous offender, he could be kept behind bars indefinitely. He’s scheduled to return to court Aug. 21.
