Regina police seized a semi-automatic rifle, ammunition and a machete after carrying out a drug warrant at a home near the city’s downtown.

Officers searched a house in the 1600 block of Ottawa Street on Saturday night as part of an investigation into drug trafficking.

Police say they attempted to breach the door of the home, but both the front and rear doors were heavily barricaded. Officers gained entry after a few minutes and found four men and a woman in the house.

Two of the men had allegedly breached court-ordered conditions or had outstanding warrants. The two other men and the woman were later released without charges.

A search of the home turned up drug packaging, an SKS semi-automatic rifle and a clip containing ammunition rounds, police said. A large machete found inside the house was also seized.

John Daniel Watkin, 21, of Regina is charged with various firearm offences and breaching conditions. Dane Stephen Laslow, 25, also from Regina, faces charges of resisting arrest and breaching probation.

Both men made their first court appearances Monday morning.
