The Saskatchewan Roughriders have been fined $31,500 by the CFL for by-law violations. Coach Chris Jones also received an additional $5,000 fine for a separate violation.

The CFL says Rider players attended practice while on the CFL suspension list. In addition, a violation in connection to the recruitment of a junior player also caused the team to incur a fine.

The fine against Jones was related to a meeting with Johnny Manziel’s publicist, which the CFL says constitutes tampering and is in violation of CFL by-laws. The CFL says there is no evidence to date that Manziel attended any Rider workouts.

The Riders issued the following statement in response:

“The Saskatchewan Roughriders have been notified of the leagues decision and accept their disciplinary action,”

“We have been forthcoming with the CFL office on any information they have requested. We look forward to moving on and continuing to prepare for the 2017 season.”

The CFL also levied a $2,500 fine against the BC Lions for salary cap violations in relation to Adam Bighill's contract.
