Investigators have determined a soldering iron sparked a fire in the garage of a home in east Regina over the weekend.

Officials say a man who lives in the house on Burns Road had returned home from a motorcycle ride prior to the fire.

Upon returning, he put his helmet on the workbench in the garage, knocking a soldering iron that had been left on into some combustibles.

The fire spread from the attached garage into the home, causing extensive damage.

The man was able to escape the fire uninjured.
