Saskatchewan Conservative MP Tom Lukiwski had a busy day handing out federal government grants in advance of a federal election.

Lukiwski dropped off cheques in Davidson, Craik and Glen Harbour before making yet another presentation in Regina. He said it's got nothing to do with the possibility of an election call.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper could visit the governor general as early this week to ask that Parliament be dissolved for an Oct. 19 federal election. It would launch the longest campaign in over a century. The prime minister isn't saying what his plans are.

The other party leaders have also been in pre-campaign mode. The NDP has been rolling out platform policies for months, including $15 a day child care spaces. Meanwhile, the Liberals have zeroed in on the softening of the economy which is nearing the definition of recession.

Conservative MPs have been announcing funding for projects all week across the country. In Regina, federal money is going toward an improved water filtration system at the North West Leisure Centre, more paved trails in Wascana Park, and improvements to the Science Centre.

The city had also asked for money to ready the Confederation Park entrance to the new stadium, but Ottawa didn’t approve that.
