A Regina high school locked its doors for a short time after police found a nearby cache of firearms Tuesday afternoon.

Police say they came across information about firearms while officers were conducting neighbourhood inquires in the area surrounding the 4500 block of Albert Street.

Officers recovered a cache of firearms in an easement and seized the weapons.

As a precaution, Campbell Collegiate initiated a “secure the building” protocol, in which exterior doors are locked and monitored, but regular school activities continue.

The protocol was in place for about an hour, and was lifted shortly before the end of the school day.

Police are looking into whether the firearms are related to recent shootings in the area on Nov. 12 and Nov. 15.

Anyone with information that could help in the investigation is asked to contact Regina police or Crime Stoppers.
