Regina police have a message for iPhone users: don’t ask Siri about 9/11.

Police say they received an unusually high number of 911 hang-up calls over the weekend that appear to be linked to Apple’s Siri virtual personal assistant.

Siri allows iPhone users to use voice commands to make calls and perform other functions.

Social media posts instructing people to say “9/11” to Siri have been making the rounds. The command places a 911 call, and police say the iPhone user often panics and hangs up.

They say re-establishing contact with the caller can tie up resources that could be needed for real emergencies.
