Doctors in Saskatchewan have ratified a four-year contract with the provincial government.

The province says in a release that about 90 per cent of physicians who cast ballots voted in favour of the deal, which is retroactive to April 1, 2013.

The doctors will get a total fee increase of 4.9 per cent.

It also calls for a further three per cent in one-time lump-sum payments.

The government says as a result, funding for medical services and programs will rise by about $85 million over the life of the deal.

More than 2,200 doctors are licensed in Saskatchewan -- an increase of 482 since March 2007.
