It was a heated debate at the RM of Sherwood rate payers meeting. More than 100 people attended, including the recently-ousted reeve Kevin Eberle. Eberle was removed in February, after an inquiry found “serious conflicts of interest and violations of public trust.” Ratepayers showed a lack of confidence in councilors, in light of the incident.

Councilors were also challenged by the rate payers on the Regina bypass. Many people voiced their concerns over the route and cost of the project. “I don’t think we should have to pay for it-- and we will be the ones to pay for it. I will not benefit from it,” said Ron Hildebrandt.

Despite concerns, the construction will proceed. “The location is set and we are moving forward. The course and the route that is selected are firm at this point,” said Minister of Highways Brent Miller.

Construction of the bypass is expected to begin in the summer of 2015.
