Moose Jaw’s police chief is stepping down after five years in the post.

Dale Larsen has accepted a new job as the executive director of policing and community safety with the Ministry of Justice.

“Under Chief Larsen’s leadership, Moose Jaw has seen an expansion of community outreach, the lowest crime rate numbers in thirty years, and a high degree of community satisfaction with the police service,” Moose Jaw Mayor Deb Higgins said in a statement Thursday.

“While Chief Larsen’s leadership will be missed, we know his skills will continue to benefit the province through his new appointment.”

Larsen was appointed police chief in January 2008. He will be leaving the job on May 1.

The Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners says it will begin the process to fill the position as soon as possible.
