The Plains Hotel in Regina is slated for demolition near the end of the month to make way for a new high-rise condominium and hotel development.
The 26-storey building will be one of the largest ever built in the city. It includes a Hilton Hotel and close to 150 condo units.
However, the project has been plagued by construction delays since it was first announced nearly two years ago.
Over half the condos have yet to be sold and the developer is still searching for a buyer for the hotel. Brightstar Corporation admits a few people who have put down deposits are growing impatient.
"I'm sure it's been very uncomfortable for some of the people who have invested in buying units here and we're going to be dealing directly with those people in the coming days," Brightstar's Greg Black said Thursday.
"We've had a few people who have asked for the return of deposits and some of those people may still wish to pursue that. Some may decide they like the project, if it's actually going to be built."
The old hotel, located at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Albert Street, is scheduled to be demolished Sept. 26.
Excavation work for the new building is expected to begin in spring.
