The 14th annual Children's Hospital Foundation Radiothon has wrapped up, raising a total of $532,312.95.
The money will be used to purchase pediatric equipment for hospitals throughout the province and to complete the children's hospital in Saskatoon.
The hospital is now 25 per cent complete and is set to open in 2019.
The pediatric equipment being purchased is a Pulmovista 500 which painlessly analyzes a child’s lungs breath-by-breath. Two fetal telemetry units, which allow mother to move freely during labour, will be purchased.
"Right now a lot of our children have to travel out of the province for pediatric care, and so this will allow a lot of those families to stay here at home with the supports that they have in the province--with family, friends,” said Amanda Burton, Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan special events manager. “It's just a few hours of a drive instead of five or six.”
Over 40 volunteers, committee members and donors helped make the 23-hour event what it was.
Since the radiothon began, it has raised over $4.4 million.
It was broadcast live on 620 CKRM, MY92.1 and 104.9 The Wolf.
