Rising water levels have prompted a warning that a large parts of southern Saskatchewan could see near record flooding.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority says very high flows and water levels in the Qu'Appelle River are expected to overflow onto the flood plain along the entire Qu'Appelle valley.

The river runs from just north of Regina to the Manitoba boundary.

The authority says many roads crossing the valley will be covered in water.

It warns that over the next week or so, towns, villages, residences, cottages and farms should expect levels almost as high as 1974, when flooding caused millions of dollars damage.

The authority has warned that the southern half of the province will see high water levels because of a wet summer fall and more snow than usual this winter.
