The cost of filling up a vehicle in Saskatchewan will continue to fall until at least the end of the year, according to the co-founder of consumer website GasBuddy.com.

Jason Toews says a combination of weaker demand for gasoline and the falling value of crude oil is pushing down prices at the pump.

“We’ve seen gas prices drop a lot recently,” Toews said Wednesday. “We’re past the end of the summer driving season and demand for gasoline is down.”

In Regina, the average price for a litre of regular unleaded was 118.9 cents on Wednesday, down about six cents from a week earlier.

Toews said he expects gas prices to edge down further as the year end approaches.

“As we get closer to the end of the year, we should see some of the cheapest prices that we will be paying,” he said.

“I think that could be as cheap as 109 (cents) per litre.”

However, he added that prices at the pump will likely rise early next year, especially if the cost of crude increases due to turmoil in the Middle East.

“By the middle or end of January, we should see gas prices start to edge back up a little bit,” Toews said.

“There’s really no special reason, it’s just one of the games that the oil companies play.”
