Occupational Health and Safety officials are investigating the death of a worker at an oilfield site in southeastern Saskatchewan.
RCMP say a 38-year-old man from Wawota, Sask. died at an oilfield battery in the Rural Municipality of Hazelwood last Thursday.
The name of the man who died hasn’t been released.
An autopsy has yet to be conducted, but authorities believe the man died of exposure to toxic hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas.
Nalco Champion says the employee was found unresponsive at one of its customers’ work sites southwest of Kennedy, Sask.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague,” the company said in a statement Monday. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Nalco Champion representatives have been in contact with the employee’s family and are “providing support during this difficult time,” a spokesperson for the company said.
The company says it will work with officials to determine the cause of the incident.
