A Regina police officer accused of misusing police resources by providing a surveillance video to a local swim club has been placed on administrative leave.

Police Chief Troy Hagen made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday.

The officer is accused of obtaining security video from the Cornwall Centre shopping mall and providing it to the Regina Optimist Dolphin Swim Club so they could identify an anonymous tipster.

There was no criminal act, nor any police investigation that warranted accessing the video.

Hagen said he only spoke about the matter Tuesday to reassure the public that it’s being dealt with.
