Heavy rain and high winds have prompted the cancellation of Tuesday night’s Queen City Ex parade and fireworks in Regina.
“It is disappointing,” event coordinator Josh Shaw said in a news release.
“The one thing we cannot control is the weather; however, in situations like this the safety of the fans, participants and staff take priority.”
Organizers say the Queen City Ex will open its gates Wednesday at noon, as scheduled.
Rainfall and wind warnings were in effect for Regina, Moose Jaw and several other southern Saskatchewan communities.
Winds reportedly gusted up to 101 kilometres an hour in Regina; 98 kilometres an hour in Coronach; 97 kilometres an hour in Assiniboia; 95 kilometres an hour in Rockglen and 89 kilometres an hour in Moose Jaw on Tuesday afternoon.
A low pressure system has dumped 40 to 60 millimeters of rain on southeastern Saskatchewan since Monday. Rainfall amounts were higher in some areas, including Coronach, which received as much as 100 millimeters.
Environment Canada said another 10 to 15 millimeters is possible in the Hudson Bay and Kamsack areas on Tuesday night.
