Home furnishing giant IKEA has announced the launch of a collection point in Regina.
The collection point, located at 525 12th Avenue East, is not an IKEA store and is owned by third-party service provider Dynamex.
IKEA customers can now shop for items online and have them delivered to the collection point for $79, regardless of the size and value of their purchase.
IKEA Canada says the flat rate represents significant savings over the average home delivery fee of $160. Customers who want to opt for home delivery can still do so, with the delivery fees remaining the same.
“Our ambition is to become more accessible to as many Canadians as possible,” IKEA Canada president Marsha Smith said in a news release Thursday.
“The launch of the Regina Collection Point is a great way to provide our customers with a more convenient shopping experience.”
IKEA collection points do not have any products available for purchase, and are intended to make shopping easier in markets the retailer has identified as having potential. An IKEA collection point opened in Saskatoon last September.
“In such a large country, it is important to offer a variety of solutions we can use to make shopping easier for Canadians,” said Smith.
“With a Collection Point already established in Saskatoon, it was a natural next step to launch in Regina, to make shopping online at www.IKEA.ca affordable for many more Saskatchewan residents.”
In 2015, IKEA Canada announced it plans to double in size by 2025. The retailer said it would open new stores in new locations, and also introduce some new formats, over the following 10 years. The first new store under the expansion is slated to open in Halifax this fall.
