In a bid to slash wait times, the province is spending $1 million to expand surgical capacity at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital.

The Five Hills Health Region aims to perform an additional 200 surgeries this fiscal year.

The funding will also cover the cost of new equipment and more rehabilitation and home care services for surgical patients.

The Saskatchewan government has set a goal of reducing wait times across the province to less than 12 months by the end of the fiscal year. The plan is to boost the number of surgeries in the provinces by 5,700, an increase of nearly eight per cent.
