The race to be NDP leader in Saskatchewan has another runner.

Erin Weir is the latest to put his name forward to be leader of the Official Opposition.

Weir is positioning himself as the longest active New Democrat in the race so far.

He served on the party's legislative advisory committee from 1998 to 2000 and was president of the Saskatchewan Young New Democrats from 2000 to 2001.

The other declared candidate is Saskatoon MLA Cam Broten.

Weir says he already has the endorsements of former NDP MP Dick Proctor and former Manitoba NDP premier Howard Pawley.

Weir unsuccessfully ran for the NDP in the 2004 federal election, losing to Liberal Ralph Goodale.
