The City of Regina is reviewing all mechanical and operational systems at the Lawson Aquatic Centre in response to a public health advisory issued earlier this week.
Two aquatic facility experts will be conducting the studies, which are expected to be completed by the end of December.
The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region warned the public on Tuesday about suspected air quality issues at the city-run facility, after hearing users report symptoms including nausea, vomiting and tightness in the chest.
The Regina Optimist Dolphin Swim Club said that over the course of the past eight months, the majority of its 120-member team has fallen ill.
The ventilation system at Lawson had a mechanical failure during a swim meet in March 2013, but the system was repaired and assessed as exceeding the National Building Code requirements, the city said in a media release Thursday.
The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region has not deemed Lawson to be unsafe, but cautions users that the illness seems to be affecting those partaking in strenuous exercise.
